Dutch Brothers Racing (DBR) today confirmed that it has formally identified four-time Formula One World Champion Max Verstappen as a leading candidate for the team\u2019s third driver seat as it builds toward its endurance racing ambitions.<\/p>\n
The announcement coincides with the Austrian Grand Prix weekend and follows what team leadership describes as an \u201cextensive international talent review.\u201d<\/p>\n
After evaluating a range of potential candidates, DBR believes Verstappen possesses several attributes aligned with the team\u2019s long-term vision.<\/p>\n
\u201cFirst and foremost, he\u2019s Dutch,\u201d said DBR CEO and Co-Founder Alan VanderMolen. \u201cWe\u2019re Dutch Brothers Racing. At some point you have to acknowledge the synergy.\u201d<\/p>\n
VanderMolen added that while Verstappen\u2019s racing r\u00e9sum\u00e9 was also considered, nationality remained the primary consideration.\u201cWe don\u2019t want to overcomplicate this. It feels like the kind of strategic alignment consultants charge a lot of money to discover.\u201d<\/p>\n
DBR Chairman and Co-Founder Jon de Jager said the recruitment process had been underway for days.\u201cWe\u2019ve been monitoring Max\u2019s development since the end of Barcelona,\u201d said de Jager. \u201cOur social media and internet searches showed us that Max has pace and race craft. We still have questions around his sense of humor, content creation discipline and \u2018Dutchness\u2019, but that\u2019s what development programs are for.\u201d<\/p>\n
The team confirmed it is prepared to make a competitive offer should Verstappen wish to explore opportunities beyond Formula One.<\/p>\n
Recognising the importance of driver identity, DBR has indicated a willingness to return Verstappen\u2019s preferred car number.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe understand the No. 1 is important to him,\u201d said VanderMolen. \u201cWe\u2019re prepared to be flexible on that point. It\u2019s the sort of concession organisations have to make when pursuing top talent.\u201d<\/p>\n
DBR Team Manager and Driver Coach Andy Boux said he believes Verstappen may be ready for the next phase of his career.\u201cMax has achieved an incredible amount in Formula One,\u201d said Boux. \u201cBut every driver eventually reaches a point where they need a fresh challenge. Endurance racing demands patience, teamwork, consistency and humility. I think he has the raw ingredients to succeed.\u201d<\/p>\n
Boux added that he remains realistic about the process.\u201cRecruitment is never guaranteed. There will be other teams interested. We simply believe we offer a compelling environment, strong leadership and one of the most supportive WhatsApp groups in motorsport.\u201d<\/p>\n
As part of the initiative, DBR will launch a public recruitment drive across social media channels, inviting fans, partners and members of the motorsport community to support the team\u2019s efforts.<\/p>\n
The team acknowledged that Verstappen is currently occupied with Formula One commitments but remains optimistic.<\/p>\n
