Abdulla Ahmed Al Suwaidi, Acting Director-General of the Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi (SCAD), states that World Statistics Day 2020 highlights the need to develop the science of statistics. Al Suwaidi said that with the availability of huge amounts of data – across all fields – comes the urgent need of human capabilities to produce accurate statistical data that adds value and supports progress.
Al Suwaidi said: “Today, our professional community celebrates World Statistics Day under the banner ‘Connecting the World with Data we can Trust.’ Accurate, reliable and up-to-date statistical information is fundamental, especially in light of the world’s rapid changes. Relevant statistical data is no longer a luxury, but a prerequisite for decision-making and strategy-building. The success of institutions relies primarily on accurate data, as it enables decision-makers to design necessary plans and achieve sustainable growth.”
Al Suwaidi added: “The COVID-19 pandemic has proved the centrality and pivotal role of statistical data in policy-making, and decision-making. The emirate of Abu Dhabi was able to adopt preventive measurements and proactive efforts to combat the spread of the pandemic based on accurate information and transparent statistical data. The emirate has played an outstanding role in developing and implementing pioneering strategies to deal with this global crisis. Vital to this has been the work done by the talented and dedicated teams at SCAD.”
