Culligan Middle East, an established supplier of water solutions for UAE restaurants, is delivering another safety solution for the food service industry in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Asurface and skin contact sanitiser developed at the company’s certified Dubai laboratory at the start of the lockdown was originally made for use by its own staff.

But the sanitiser, adapted from a water treatment product through a novel process, was soon in demand from the food service, food manufacturing and other industries.

While a stream of other similar products have been banned because of safety regulations, Culligan Safe Guard 45 H 25 is the only sanitiser to have been certified by the Emirates Authority For Standardization & Metrology

Having also earned safety approval from a UK-based independent research specialist, it has a base of hypochlorous acid, a substance our white blood cells produce naturally in the immune system to combat infection, meaning it is highly effective and safe for the body.

“As a responsible company, our priority is always toensure that our products are safe and effective,” said Culligan Middle East technical director, Rodger Macfarlane.

“At the start of the lockdown we looked for a good hand sanitiser for our staff, but couldn’t find anything suitable in the market. So I put on a lab coat and worked with the team to adapt one of our water treatment products.”

Culligan’s main business is to make water safe across industry, and its systems for restaurants save money, reduce use of chemicals and detergents, and can increase overall equipment efficiency and life.

Used at every stage of food and beverage preparation, water entering a restaurant from the local network often contains substances and contaminants which, if not treated, can spoil the dining experience.
