A New Generation of Bioinformatics Software: All Basic Research Tools Available Free of Charge
Aarhus, Denmark - Aug 25, 2005 (PRN):
Before you consider buying new bioinformatics tools for your lab research, check out the newest software from CLC bio A/S. This week CLC bio released CLC Free Workbench 1.0 - a user-friendly and innovative software package containing a number of basic bioinformatics tools for lab researchers working within biochemistry and molecular biology.
CLC Free Workbench is a unique freeware bioinformatics program as it integrates data management, basic bioinformatics analyses, and sophisticated graphics into one single software package available for both Windows, MacOS X, and Linux platforms.
Some of the bioinformatics analyses included are open reading frame determination, restriction site analysis, alignments and phylogenetic tree reconstruction.
The beta version of the program is presently being used by people in more than 30 countries, and the new release, which will be expanded continuously during the coming months and years, is expected to set a new global standard for bioinformatics analytical software.
CLC Free Workbench can be downloaded free of charge from http://www.clcbio.com.
Thomas Knudsen, Chief Executive Officer at CLC bio, states: “With CLC Free Workbench we have developed an ideal platform for realizing one of our ambitious goals: To create a software suite that targets all bioinformatics needs of researchers working with biochemistry and molecular biology“
Upcoming software releases from CLC bio
In November 2005, CLC bio will release CLC Protein Workbench followed by CLC Gene Workbench in March 2006. A number of more sophisticated bioinformatics programs will follow later in 2006 and beyond.
All these programs will include a wide range of advanced bioinformatics algorithms and data management tools relevant to researchers within biochemistry and molecular biology. Each type of workbench will be updated several times a year in order to give users access to the newest bioinformatics tools, and to the latest developments within information technology, data management and collaborative work environments.
All types of CLC workbenches share the same IT architecture, and are therefore fully integrated across programs and across IT platforms. Equipping a research lab with a number of CLC Free Workbenches and a few CLC Protein Workbenches, will thus be a cost effective way to create a work environment enabling both advanced bioinformatics analysis and efficient internal collaboration and data sharing among all researchers in the lab.
